KOOKIE TOO poursuit le travail de Mike Zilver dans l'hybridation de deux sons : celui rugueux et fumé du Trip Hop des années 90, et celui plus acide et « digital » de l'électronique contemporaine. Sans rien « d'expérimental » : simplement, Zilver a synthétisé une formule et sait l'utiliser dans des productions évocatrices et puissantes, avec des batteries savamment programmées et des paysages sonores richement remplis. Il y a cependant une clé de reconnaissance de cette œuvre par rapport au premier KOOKIE et ce sont les nombreuses références aux ambiances du Moyen-Orient, aux mélodies arabes et à l'utilisation de percussions superposées aux rythmes.
Le chant de Natacha Lubin renforce cette idée dès le premier (splendide) morceau : avec "HOCUS POCUS" on se retrouve projeté dans la chaude Méditerranée, territoire de carrefour de cultures et d'influences. Captivante et puissante comme la nitroglycérine parfumée à la fraise, la voix de Lubin nous accompagne dans un long voyage de 19 titres qui passe de l'Afrique francophone et arrive en Europe de l'Est avec une grâce hors du commun.

Aujourd'hui que le Trip Hop, après avoir été englouti par le Mainstream, semble avoir disparu des charts, de nouveaux groupes continuent de surgir, capables non seulement de maintenir le flambeau haut, mais aussi de lui donner un nouvel élan.

In continuity with the previous work, KOOKIE TOO continues Mike Zilver's work in the hybridization of two sounds: the rough and smoky one of 90s Trip Hop, and the more acidic and "digital" one of contemporary electronics. Without anything "experimental": simply, Zilver has synthesized a formula and knows how to use it in evocative and powerful productions, with expertly programmed drums and richly filled soundscapes.
However, there is a key to recognizing this work compared to the first KOOKIE and it is the numerous references to Middle Eastern atmospheres, the Arabic melodies and the use of percussion superimposed on the beats.
Natacha Lubin's vocals reinforce this idea from the first (splendid) track: with "HOCUS POCUS" we find ourselves thrown into the warm Mediterranean, a territory of crossroads of cultures and influences. Captivating and powerful like strawberry-flavored nitroglycerin, Lubin's voice accompanies us on a 19-track long journey that passes from French-speaking Africa and arrives in Eastern Europe with an uncommon grace.

Today that Trip Hop, after having been swallowed up (like everything else) by the Mainstream, seems to have disappeared from the charts, new bands continue to arise capable of not only keeping the torch high, but also giving it new impetus.
